American Hero's Sword Spellbinds British Boys: British youngsters got a chance to explore an American destroyer when the U.S.S. Hancock gave a children's party on the last day of a recent courtesy visit to Sunderland, England. Photo shows The captain of the U.S.S. Hancock, Commander M. Alpert, tells two fascinated British boys, Peter Kennedy (12) and Alan Joneathy (10), the history of a sword they had spotted in the wardroom. It belonged to Lt. Cdr. Lewis Hancock, naval flyer and hero of the first World War, who was killed in the crash of the dirigible U.S.S. Shenandosh in 1925. The destroyer was named in his honor.
