British Canberra Jet Bomber Sets Up New World Altitude Record Of Over Twelve Miles: It has just been officially announced that the British Canberra Jet Bomber, powered by two Bristol Olympus Turbo-jet engines, and piloted by ~ing Commander W.F. Gibb D.S.O., D.F.C. - on May 4th. set up a new world altitude record for Class C. aeroplanes. Observed by officials of the Royal Aero Club and the Federation Aeronatatique Internationals - the Olymp~s-Canberre took of from Filton Aerodrome and 14.32 hrs. and landed again at 15.33 hrs after creating a new record of over 12 miles in height.
