Increase of Housing construction in Sofia: While before World War II the Bulgarian capital Sofia had 350,000 inhabitants, now they are over a million. This fact imposed accelerated housing construction in all quarters of Sofia. In the Eastern part of the city a whole belt of modern housing estates has been built - "Iskar", "Mladost", "Iztok", "Durvenitza" and others. In the period 1971-75 65,000 flats with 162,000 rooms will be built in Sofia while in the period 1965-70 40,070 flats with 89,848 rooms were built.
