This photo Shows the "Praca Tiradentes" with the statute of T. and the city hall of Ouro-Preto in the state Minas Gerais in Brazil. Every year on April 21 the holiday of "Tiradentes" is held, and the population of Ouro Preto is celebrating this big hero, who became a martyr-patroit of whole Brazil. He was the leader f the abortive attempt to throw off Portuguese rule in 1789 and establish a democrat6ic republic. He was born in 1748 in Sao Joao d'El-Rer and his real name was Joaquim Jose De Silva Xavier. Called upon to perform what passed for dentistry in those days, he acquired the nickname "Tiradentes" - tooth puller. He was executed on April 21 in 1792 in Ouro Preto and his head was stuck on a pole on the same place where is now his monument.
