Crown of eggs over the villages on River Rhine and Westerwald.
The crown of eggs to be seen in many villages on River Rhine and in the Westerwald during Whitsuntide is a symbol of fertility. About 2,000 egg-shells collected by boys and girls since Easter are in the huge crowns. The crown of egg-shells will remain as long as the first harvest carriage is brought in and then the farmer has to pay a glass of beer for the youth of the village. Photo shows the crown of eggs of the small place Kueding hoven opposite the Federal capital Bonn.
Photo measures 6 x 8 inches.
