The Famous Bristol Aeroplane Company celebrates its fiftieth anniversary on Feb. 19, 1960. The company produced its first aircraft in 1910, little more than six years after the Wright Brothers had achieved their epoch making flight at Kittyhawk. The first Bristol aircraft, the Boxkite Biplane was in production a few months after formation. A 'Boxkite' had the distinction of making the first military flight in history when in Sept. 1910, it was used in a reconnaissance role in British army manoeuvres in Salisbury Plain.Keystone picture shows: The 'Boxkite', earliest aircraft produced by the Bristol Aeroplane company in 1910, contrasted with the latest Bristol Britannia turboprop airliner, now in use all over the world with British Overseas Airways, Canadian Pacific Airlines, etc. RAF Transport command in being equiped with a military version of the gigantic Britannia.
