Election of Federal Diet in West Germany: On October 5, 1980 the elections of the 9. German Federal Diet, which has been expected with tension, took place Chancellor Helmut Schmidt was confirmed in his port, although he didn't get essential more voices for his party, the SPD, than in the year 1976 (0,4 % more voices than four years ago). Their partner of coalition, the FDP, under the presidency of Hans-Dietrich Genscher reached the former highest percentage of voices (10.5 % in opposite of 7,9% four years ago). The CDU/CSU with their chancellor-candidate Franz-Josef Strauss complained of losses in the high of 4%. This party reached 44,6 % of all voices and thus it continued being the most powerful parliamentary group in the German Federal Diet. OPs: Franz-Josef Strauss at the delivery of his voting-paper.
