CSU PARTY CONGRESS IN MUNICH/WEST GERMANY: The Party Congress of the Christlich Soziale Union took place in Munich/West Germany on September 28th and 29th, 1979. The meeting took a special national and international interest because of the fact, that the chairman of this party, Franz Josef Straus, - after a dramatically confrontation within the CDU/CSU sister parties -, became nominated as common candidate for chancellorship for the coming elections in autumn 1980. On the Munich Party Congress Franz Josef Straus was re-elected as chairman of the CSU with an overwhelming majority (by 857 of 866 legal votes).
