Nigerian Mutiny - premier arrested and regional leaders reported shot: Nigeria, West Africa's biggest State was poised on the brink of cival war last night as Army leaders loyal to the Federal Government sought to quell an attempted coup d'etat by dissadent military elements. the Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa is said to have been kidnapped and reliable sources also say that Chief Akintola, Western Region Premier and Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of the Northern Region, and his wife, were among a number of prominent pro-Government supporters killed by the insurgents.
