World's Biggest Ship Christened
The world's largest tanker, the 312 ton DWT "Universe Ireland", was christened on august 15th by Mrs. John Lynch, wife of the Prime Minister of the Irish Republic. The christening took place at the Yokohama shipyard of Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries. The huge ship is the first of six super mammoth tankers for long term charter by Gulf Oil Co. The "Universe Ireland" will transport 2.2 million barrels of crude oil on each trip from Kuwait to a storage terminal at BantryBay, Ireland.
