The Composer Nico Dostal Becomes 85 Years: On november 27th. 1885, Nico Dostal was born in Korneuburg near Vienna?Austria. He first started a study of law at the university of Vienna, but then he studied music at the academy of sacred music in Klosterneuburg. His first composition, a great mass, was played for the first time in the cathedral of linz. After the first World-War he was active as bandmaster of a theatre at different places. 1924 he went to Vienna and undertook several musical activities. His first operetta "Clivia' (1933) became significant for him in two kinds of regards: It brought a great success to him and he 1942 he married Lillie Claus, who had sung the name-part in "Clivia". The success of nico Dostal continued. After operettas like "Die Vielgeliebte" (1934) ( The Beloved One), "monika" (1937), "Die ungarische Hochzeit" (1939) (the Hungarian Marriage", Manina" (1942), "Zirkusblut" (1950), "Der Kurier der Konigin" (1957) (The Courier of the Queen and "Rhapsodie der Liebe" (1963) (Rhapsodie of Love) there grew hits, film musics, ballett musics and suites. For his musical creations 1959 the title professor was conferred to Nico Dostal by the Austrian Federal President; 1972 he got the Great Distinguished Service Cross of West Germany. Photo shows.
