Lord Pilkington speaks about a new ?8 - Million fiberglass factory: At a press conference today Lord Pilkington spoke about a large new project at Skelmersdale, in Lancashire. He stated that Pilkington is to invest ?8 - million in a new Fiberglass Limited factory for making glass fiber reinforcements for composite materials at Skelmersdale new town, Lancs. This is the largest single investment undertaken by the Pilkington group outside the flat glass field. Fiberglass Ltd.,formed some 30 years ago, has developed in two general directions - glass wool for insulation, which for long has been the backbone of the industry; and continuous filament for textiles and composite manufacture which has been growing rapidly. This new large project is a great extension into composites and particularly into fiberglass reinforced plastics.
