His suit, harness and tether checked, Major Alexander (Ed Nelson) prepares to lower himself for a mid-air rescue attempt from a helicopter into the open nose cone of a Columbia Airlines 747 below as, left, trouble-shooter Alan Murdock (Charlton Heston) and airlines president Joseph Patroni (George Kennedy) look on anxiously. Universal's "Airport 1975" stars Charlton Heston, Karen Black, George Kennedy, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Susan Clark, and Helen Reddy; and co-stars Linda Blair, Dana Andrews, Sid Caesar, Myrna Loy, Ed Nelson, Larry Storch, Martha Scott, Jerry Stiller, Conrad Janis, Beverly Garland, Guy Stockwell and Gloria Swanson. The large-scale air suspense drama in Technicolor and Panavision was produced by William Frye and directed by Jack Smight, with Jennings Lang as executive producer. The screenplay war written by Don Ingalls and inspired by the film "Airport," based on the novel by Arthur Hailey.
