1963 Press Photo William H. Love with his sugar cane crop, Hickory Ridge

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
In the last photo, William H. Love, 78, points to the top of his 12-foot sugar cane and says the water will go higher - "up, up and up." He said he will make more than 1000 gallons of syrup this year which he can sell for $2.25 a gallon. Love, of Hickory Ridge, was born in a house adjoining the one in which he now lives. These people are among hundreds who are hopping mad because they will be uprooted from land that has been their home for as long as they can remember and because, some of them say, they are not getting a fair price for the land. Toledo Bend Reservoir.

Photo is dated 1963.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
