Nosing ahead...participants in Houston's 18th Reeking Regatta, above, slip, slide and sluice into the headwaters of Buffalo Bayou at the Voss Bridge on San Felipe to race downtown Saturday. Once underway, left, the canoes and their crews glide on to finish the race at Allen's Landing downtown. Jim Pye and Mett Peterson took first place in the Recreational Novice division, one of seven categories of the race. The event, sponsored by Coors Beer and the Buffalo Bayou Coalition, raised $2,000 for the preservation of the waterway, which winds through Houston.
