Description
Morgans Point, Texas. Erosion and Toll of Time. Graphic evidence of bayshore erosion and the toll of time is illustrated here. The piling way out from shore 18 years ago was a docking area for the famous Morgans Point ferry linking Baytown and La Porte. A paved highway led from lower right to the ferry slip where cars could go on and off the ferries. The ferry crossing was abandoned in 1950 when the baytown-La Porte tunnel was opened. Since then, time and tide has taken their toll of this bayshore landmark, practically rubbing out the old ferry landing on the Morgans Point side. The Years Take Their Due. The years have taken their toll on this old bayshore landmark. Eighteen years ago, the pilings far out from shore were a docking area for the famed Morgans Point ferry which linked Baytown and La Porte. A paved highway ferry slip so cars could get on and off the boats. The ferry crossing was abandoned in 1950 when the Baytown-La Porte tunnel was opened. Time and tide have since done their work, and the rotting hulks rising from the water are all that remain.
