1965 Press Photo Pope Paul VI at St. Joseph's Church Lenten Mass in Rome

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Pope Paul VI enters the third year of his reign on Monday. He is shown elevating the host of Holy Communion during a Lenten Mass in Rome's St. Joseph's Church. Since his election as the Church's 262 Pope on June 21, 1963, he has been largely occupied with completion of projects initiated by his predecessor, Pope John XXIII. Many at the Vatican think he will set a vigorous course for his pontificate during the year, possibly embarking on board new policies.

Photo is dated 1965.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
