Washington, D.C. - General Maxwell Taylor, left, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. Earle G. Wheeler, Army Chief of Staff, confer in the Pentagon yesterday after it was announced that Taylor was selected to be Ambassador to South Viet Nam and Wheeler would become the new chairman of the JCS. President Johnson announced the changes after he accepted the resignation of Henry Cabot Lodge as Ambassador to South Vietnam, June 23.
