General Alfred M. Gruenther, retired, told a gas association meeting in Salt Lake City that this country needs to pursue a "hard-boiled attitude of realism" in dealing with the Soviet Union. The onetime supreme allied commander in Europe says it is easy to estimate Russian military capabilities but difficult to predict intentions. He is against U.S. troop retrenchment in Europe.
