1974 Press Photo Charles Maddox & daughter Catherine Cunningham dig up asphalt

Description
Real estate man Charles H. Maddox Jr. and his daughter, Catherine Cunningham, use garden tools to remove newly-poured asphalt on the 5000 block of Roseland in the Montrose area. They object to the asphalt, saying it spoils the character of the original red bricks of the lane passing behind the Montrose Arms apartments (background) which Maddox owns. The short stretch of Roseland, extending from the Holland (Masonic) Lodge toward the Museum of Fine Arts, was resurfaced Tuesday by the city public works department in preparation for this weekend's Main Street '74 festivities. Maddox says he hopes the city will remove all of the asphalt and repair the chugholes with red bricks. Roseland Street
