The rig at the left, Harlan and Welsh Well Servicing's big Cardwell KB 500 has over six miles of pipe standing in the Derrick, 21,632 feet of 2?ths inch and 11,216 feet of 2 inch. Ability of the rig to stand this amount of pipe instead of laying it down saves rig time. This job, at Alta Loma, called for killing three zones, each requiring pressure in excess of 800 pounds. This new Cardwell rig is the largest ever put on wheels in the United States. It is equipped with a high-pressure pump (above) capable of doing many other jobs Service companies normally are called to do.
