Sheffield Steel Corp. Houston Aerial view of Sheffield Steel Plant in Houston--This new aerial photograph shows the only fully integrated steel plant in the Central United States, the only mill which starts with raw iron ore and scrap metal and carries the manufacturing process through to finished products such as nails, barbed wire, fencing, structural steel, reinforcing rods and other products. The plant is located on the Houston Ship Channel, on the edge of the city. In the left foreground is the office building. Center foreground shows the buildings housing the open hearth furnaces and various rolling mills. In the far background, on the banks of the Ship Cannel are, at left, the coke ovens which manufacture coke from Arkansas and Oklahoma coal and, right, the blast furnace which makes pig iron from East Texas ore.
