Austin, Texas You're on the south lawn of the Capitol grounds in Austin facing the Volunteer Fireman's statue, created and executed by Frank Teich and dedicated in 1896. The bronze figure on a granite base depicts a fireman holding a frightened baby in his left arm and a lantern in his right hand. The statue is one of 12 situated on the Capital grounds, an area of 25.96 acres enclosed by the original iron fence, erected in 1890.
