Hang on, commuters, there's hope: The Tracked Hovercraft, an all-electric vehicle which "flies" half an inch above it's rail, is a project being studied by British engineers looking for solutions to transport problems. This artist's impression shows a hovertrain proposed for an airport-city link. Support and guidance would be by air cushion, propulsion by linear motor, and it would zip along with 100 passengers at 250 miles an hour, silently, without fumes. But it still needs more tests to prove it will work.
