Caption: (NY13) NEW YORK, Sept. 14 ? POTTERS RETURN FROM EUROPE ? Sen. Charles E. Potter (R-Mich) and his wife are shown aboard liner United States here today on returning from three weeks in Europe. Potter said he thought Europeans were ?inclined to overemphasize? the influence of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy (R-Wis). Potter was a member of the Senate subcommittee which conducted hearings recently on the McCarthy-Army controversy. Potter had no idea he would cast his vote against McCarthy until McIntyre forced his hand. Detroit Tommy McIntyre went to Washington and slew a dragon. Charles E. Potter got most of the credit for toppling Joe McCarthy, but he only did what Tommy told him to do.
