Caption: George Killeen: "Point of order, Mr/ Chairman!" OF COURSE, the commissioners take themselves and their jobs seriously. They are the legislative body for Wayne county. They set the county's general fund budget, this year at $273 million. Each commissioner has a constituency of slightly less than 100,000 people. They are elected to two-year terms and have an earning potential of $14,880 from their commissioner jobs. The board has appointive power for members of some county boards and for the heads of some county agencies. It approves contracts negotiated with the unions of county employes. Commissioner Silver has called the board "one of the best legislative bodies in the state".
