Caption: Denise McNeely got a $7,500 reward for honesty Friday from syndicated Chicago columnist Bob Greene, who placed the money in a trust so as not to jeopardize her mother's ADC payments. Greene pledged the money, out of his own pocket, after the Taylor 14-year-old turned in a $7,500 diamond ring she found at the site of the Northwest Airlines Flight 255 crash in August after barricades were taken away. McNeely, a ninth grader at Taylor Center High School, gave the ring to Romulus police despite urging from friends to pawn it. Police returned it to the husband of an Arizona woman who was one of 156 people killed in the Aug. 16 crash. "She can get the money out without having to wait until she's 18," Greene said. "I told her the money's there to do what you want with it, but I hope you decide to use it in your best interests. She said she wanted to buy some special Christmas presents for her family. If that's her attitude, that's fine," said Greene. His column runs on the Free Press Feature Page Tuesdays and Thursdays.
