1937 Press Photo AFL president William Green after conference with JL Lewis

Washington DC William Green, president of American Federation of Labor at right issued statement to reporters after the breakdown of his conference with John L Lewis, head of the rival committee for industrial organization, at which they had sought to find a method of closing the rift that divided the ranks of labor. No conclusion was reached. Green announced which statement is interpreted as meaning that CIO and AFL are in same position as they were before the peace parley.
