Joe B. Hamiter, Shreveport, former member of the Legislature who opposed Huey P. Long in the stormy days, was sworn in yesterday as associate justice of the Louisiana supreme court, succeeding his late John R. Land. Chief Justice Charles J. O'Niell administered the oath of office, and afterwards presented the Bible on which the oath was taken, to the new justice.
