Description
The portrait, "Monna Vanna" by Gabriel Rosetti (1828-1882) was the inspiration for an opera by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The first act of this opera will be performed as a World Premiere by the Philadelphia Orchestra on August 11 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The concert will be conducted by Igor Buketoff and will feature guest soloists; Tatiana Troyanos, Sherrill Milnes, John Alexander, Nicholas Karousatos, Henry Grossman and the Saratoga-Potsdam Chorus. Rachmaninoff's "Spring Cantata" and "Symphonic Dances" will also be performed on Saturday's program.
