1963 Press Photo Park Street Church Boston Massachusetts Brimstone Corner

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Built beside historic Boston Common, in 1809, Park Street Church was the site of the first public singing of "America", on the 4th of July in 1832. Here William Lloyd Garrison gave his first anti-slavery address in 1829. The site has long been known as "Brimstone Corner", because brimstone for gunpowder was stored in the cellar during the War of 1812. Boston's "Freedom Trail" begins at this Church.
Photo measures 8 x 10 in.
