Description
Many radio fans were puzzled the other night when they listened in on station WEEI, Boston and heard F. J. Fernholz, Boatswain's mate of the USS Florida, render all the important calls used on board ships in the US Navy. Some thought the instrument used was a sort of steam whistle, others a sort of saxophone and many others weird conceptions. But here we show Fernholz himself and the peculiar whistle that is used.

Photo is dated 1924.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
