Description
Practice cruise - 1894---For many years the practice cruise has been an integral part of the training at the Academy permitting students to put into practice what they had learned in the classroom. This photograph, excellent by today's standards, shows a group of Naval cadets on the U.S.S. Monongahela, who sailed on June 9, 1984 for a three-week cruise. In the center is one of the few Japanese students ever permitted to attend the Academy. Naval Midshipman Takisaki is seated in the foreground with hand on deck. According to Academy records the last Japanese student was admitted in June 1906 (United States Military Academy) (Midshipmen-naval cadets) (U.S. S. Monongahela)

Photo is dated 1894.

Photo measures 9.25 x 7.25 inches.
