Description
A powerful solar radiation simulator is being added to the space thermal vacuum chamber at the Martin Marietta Corporationâs space complex near Denver, Colorado. This artistâs rendering depicts the unitâs 19-arc lamps, with 20,000 watts each, (lower left) casting a beam of light into the chamber via a 23-foot diameter mirror attached to the lid. Simulating the rigors of space in the chamber , critical tests will be performed on advanced spacecrafts, components and systems destined for space exploration.
