Smithsonian Conference - Finance ministers of 10 leading industrial countries discuss currency reforms in the stately Commons Room of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. They agreed to realign the free world's system of monetary exchange rates. Chairman of the two-day conference was U.S. Treasury Secretary John Connally (at center of far table). The group of Ten comprises Belgium, Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands,Sweden, the United States and West Germany. The 116-year-old Smithsonian building is headquarters for a vast complex of museums, art galleries, libraries, laboratories and study halls.
