Filming "Pope Joan": According to a number of church historians writing in the early middle ages there existed in the ninth century a girl who, disguised as a monk, was accepted by Pope Leo in Rome and eventually became a Pope herself. It is this provocative story, set against the turbulent background of Europe in the dark ages, that is told in the Kurt Unger production of "Pope Joan", being filmed at Bray Studios. Liv Ulimann, the outstanding Norwegian actress and star role of the female Pope. Photo shows Liv Ulimann, who plays Pope Joan and Franco Nero who plays Louis - pictured today at Bray Studios.
