1965 Press Photo shell Comb of Venus conchology Horizon

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: To the true conchologist the Comb of Venus shell pictured above is more beautiful than the Venus the Milo. Over 100,000 species of shell-producing mollusks have been recorded. Thirty-six of the most beautiful among them are featured in a full color portfolio supplementing an article on mollusks (when next you meet an oyster, remember it's a mollusk) in the Winter issue of HORIZON magazine.
