This is an original press photo. John F. Stevens pointing down Marias Pass in the Rockies, while he related to the members of the Upper Missouri Historical Expedition the story of his exploit thirty six years before in discovering the shortest route to the Pacific Northwest. Back of him stands the heroic figure in bronze just unveiled, of the man himself in the garb he wore on the memorable night then he tramped until dawn to keep from freezing. Mark the striking resemblance between the Stevens in the flesh and the Stevens in metal, though the former is 72 and the latter presents him at the age of 36/ This dedication finished the work of the Upper Missouri Historical Expedition.Photo measures 6.25 x 9.75inches. Photo is dated 7-30-1925.
